Not only was the River Jordan, or Jordan River, the body of water the Israelites had to cross in order to get to the Promised Land, but it is also remembered as the location where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. Initially, John did not feel comfortable with the idea of baptizing Jesus. He felt Jesus should be the one to baptize him. However, Jesus, in His always humble character, reassured John that was what would be pleasing to God.

Now water baptisms are symbolic of the spiritual baptisms we encounter when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit baptizes us, and we are "born again," on a mission to live a life for Christ.

Read Matthew 3:11-17 to learn more on the baptism of Jesus and the symbolism of baptism. How has your life changed since you've been baptized with the Holy Spirit?
