The story of Esther tells how a young Jewish woman became queen of Persia and courageously saved her people from destruction. She was chosen by King Ahasuerus to become queen after the previous queen lost her position. Esther kept her Jewish identity secret, following Mordecai's advice.
A powerful official named Haman became enraged when Mordecai refused to bow to him. In revenge, Haman convinced the king to issue a decree ordering the destruction of all the Jews in the empire.
Mordecai urged Esther to intervene, reminding her, "Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?" Despite the risk of approaching the king without being summoned—a crime punishable by death—Esther courageously did so. She invited the king and Haman to two banquets, where she revealed both her Jewish identity and Haman's plot.
The king ordered Haman to be executed on the very gallows Haman had prepared for Mordecai. Although the original decree could not be revoked, the king allowed the Jews to defend themselves, and they were delivered from their enemies.
Esther’s story reminds us that God can place us in certain circumstances “for such a time as this.” Even when God seems silent or His work is not obvious, He may be working through the position, opportunities, and courage He has given us. Where might God be asking you to step forward in faith rather than remain silent or comfortable?
